Mt Kenya Route/Price

Learn about the ecosystem, vegetation and magnificent landscape in the Africa's second highest mountain standing at 5199m high. It is a broad, large symmetrical volcano cone whose diameter at the base is about 12 km, dating between 2 to 3 million years ago.

Naromoru Route:
Naro Moru Gate, Met camp Site (10,000 ft), Mackinder's camp site(14,000 ft.), Lenana peak, Nairobi

This is the most popular route although. It is also the fastest route to point Lenana. This route is treacherous vertical bog and into the wide Teleki Valley beneath the Tryndall, The Lewis Glacier.
Though the summit can be reached in 4 days as per the below itinerary, we strongly recommend an overnight acclimatization at the base, Naromoru River Lodge. which can be arranged for at an extra fee.

Day 1: Nairobi, Meteorological Station.
Transfer to Naromoru Park Gate for registration and start the hike , 2600m From the gate, keep to the park track, following the crest of a broad ridge between the Northern and Southern Naromoru valleys. About two thirds of the way up after the bridge there are good views to the left north down into the Northern Naromoru valley. The trek ends at Met station 3,000m for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Met Station, Mackinders Camp.
Head uphill on the track to pass the radio must on your right after about half an hour. The trek runs into a path and after another 30 minutes, you will reach the end of the forest belt and enter the moorland. This is the vertical bog conditions range from damp to glutinous depending on when it last rained. Continue through until the going improves and you reach a fork overlooking Teleki Valley to reach Mackinders Camp, 4,200m. Dinner and overnight at Mackinders Camp.

Day 3: Mackinders Camp, Point Lenana
0630hrs ascent to point Lenana taking about 4 hr walk . After sunrise, descend down for 2hrs to Mackinders Camp for breakfast, and walk further 4hrs, way back to Met Station for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Met Station, Naromoru, Nairobi
After breakfast, descend through the rainforest for 9km to Narumoru Park Gate at 2,600m where you will connect with your transport back to Nairobi via kirasha comminity to meet the Kikuyu people for cultural exchange.

Sirimon Route :
Nairobi Sirimon Park Gate,Old Moses camp (3300m), Shipton's camp (4200m ), Lenana (4985m), Sirimon Park Gate, Nairobi
Much more scenic than Naromoru,Sirimon is on the dry side of mountain which offers some of the finest Climb up through the forest into a wide ridge approach to the summit area. The route starts on the northwest side of the mountain near Nanyuki. Access is adequate and the bunk house facilities are the best on this side of the mountain

Day 1: Sirimon, Judmier Camp (Old Moses Camp)
Depart Nairobi 0800hrs to Nanyuki town for lunch, Proceed to Sirimon Gate, about 4hrs. From the gate follow the track as it winds uphill though the forest which becomes heath land after about 3 hrs.Ascent for about 3½ hours to Judmier Camp, 3300m for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Judmier Camp, Shipton Camp
After breakfast, follow the track uphill, forking left at the junction. After one hour from Old Moses Camp, the track crosses Ontulili River. Go right contouring through the Moorland and crossing Liki North and continue uphill to Mackinders Valley from where there are panoramic views up the valley towards the main peaks. Dinner and overnight at Shipton Camp 4200m.

Day 3: Shipton Camp - Acclimatisation
Spend the day acclimatizing. Walk to Kami Hut down to Hauseberg Lakes then back to Shipton camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Shiptons, Point Lenana, Chogoria Gate
Leave at 0300hrs ascent for about 3and half hours to point Lenana. After the sunrise, descend for 2 hrs down to Mintos hut, for breakfast and further down 2950m to Mount Meru Bandas, near chogoria gate for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Nairobi
Descend 2hr, 15km to forest clearance to catch a vehicle to Chogoria Village then pass to kirasha community to meet the kikuyu people, transfer back to Nairobi with lunch enroute.
