Summary:
This 10–day educational trip will allow you to learn about the behaviours of animals in the wilderness and the importance of the ecosystem. This trip will give you the opportunity to enjoy great game drives and get close to the people who are also concerned about the environment and use their traditional way to do some Conservation. Learn about the ressettlement of Nubian communities from Soudan in the Slums and about the main protected animal species in Kenyan in most famous national parks and reserves that is to say Samburu, Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara and Tsavo national parks. Also be trained on the rescue of animal orphans. Interact with youth groups who are doing their best in protecting the environment.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival
Arrive in Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta international airport, transfer to hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Clean up in Kibera and Visit to Giraffe centre.
Pick up from your hotel then drive to Kibera slums (the second biggest slum in Africa) to experience how the dense population ravaged with poverty affects the environment - e.g. careless waste disposal - and the efforts that the youths are coming up with to save the environment. You will then have a clean up exercise with the youths. You will have a packed lunch, before going to Giraffe centre where the endangered Rothschild giraffe are kept. Dinner in Carnivore restaurant, night in hotel.

Day 3: Endangered species of Samburu.
Early morning drive to Samburu national reserve, relax at leisure after lunch then have an evening game drive: you may be lucky to spot some of the endangered species only found in this reserve like the grazing blue legged ostrich, Reticulated giraffe and the Gravy Zebra. You will learn how these species have been protected and the threats that have endangered them: Dinner at Samburu game lodge.

Day 4: Flamingoes of Lake Nakuru national park
Very early morning game drive in Samburu, to view the animals start hunting. There you will also understand how the local people understand the ecosystem food chain. Then depart to Lake Nakuru national park where millions of flamingoes and other bird species are present with some immigrated several thousands of kilometres away. Learn why the flamingoes prefer this alkaline lake and the efforts done to conserve the lake. Game drives will also be provided in the park where the endangered white and black rhinos, Rothschild giraffe and other wildlife are also conserved. Learn about the great season of the birth time of animals: Dinner and night at campsite.

Day 5: Wildebeest migration in Masai Mara.
After breakfast, drive to Masai Mara game reserve, one of the East Africa largest Game Reserves which hosts one of the world wonders, known as Wildebeest annual migration! Enjoy a game drive along the annual wildebeest migration routes and learn how these yearly routes are determined and how climatic changes and causes might affect them. You will spot many other animals, including the Big Five, ie. Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Rhino & Elephant: Dinner and night at campsite.
(Best time to experience the migration is between July & October).

Day 6: Masai Mara
Very early morning game drive to see animals hunting. You will have a picnic lunch at hippo point along Mara river, where hippos and crocodiles can be seen basking on the rocks. It is this river that the wildebeest and other animals migrating cross during the great migration, leaving some of them eaten up by the crocodiles: Dinner and night in campsite.

Day 7: Masai community and Tsavo National park.
Drive to a nearby Masai community and learn how the people have managed to keep their culture and traditions up to today and live close to the animals. Then depart to Tsavo national park with you lunch enroute. Tsavo has huge herds of elephants which have for some times caused conflicts with the nearby communities. The communities however have started embracing the elephant’s conservation with the area and some members have even given out their land for the conservation purposes: Dinner and night in campsite.

Day 8: Beaches of Mombasa and turtle conservation.
Morning game drive in Tsavo, then depart to Mombasa where you will have an afternoon relaxing on the beach. Then visit a turtle conservation area where they encourage turtle release programmes by fishermen. This is the place where a turtle named Mzee took care of a new born hippo! Enjoy dinner at Swahili Cultural Plate Restaurant before dinner in your hotel

Day 9: Turtles conservation and water sports
Enjoy water sports optional activities like scuba diving and snorkelling. You will exchange with a youth group on how they are trying to do conservation for the endangered sea. You may also enjoy boat rides with an afternoon visit to Mombasa Old town and fort Jesus: Dinner and night in your lodge.

Day 10: Depart
Depart Mombasa and drive back to Nairobi to arrive in good time for airport transfer to catch your flight back home.
