Type of Visa Volunteers should obtain a TOURIST VISA for volunteering in our projects. The visa can be secured in an Kenyan embassy or consulate in your country but also once arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (process will take less than 30mn). Many voluntary organizations through umbrella body are currently trying to push for volunteer visa but this is yet to be materialized! Preparation & orientation: Malaika Eco-voluntary and Conservation program has an intensive 3 days preparation seminar before volunteers proceed and subsequent placement to respective projects. This training preparation entails North/South relations, Cultural difference and prejudice, dealing with cultural shock, travel details and Expectations. The climax of the orientation is the visits and experience of the gap between the haves and have-nots (rich and poor) in different slums within Nairobi city and understanding of its impact on the socio-economic development. Medical aspects Kenya is located in what is normally referred as Tropical Africa. It’s important for those participating in our Eco-volunteer and Conservation programs to take precautions on taking malaria prevention pills, vaccination for typhoid, yellow fever etc...Whenever you travel, you should also take precaution on washing your hands. Our advice is to set a time ahead of your travel with your family doctor and follow his point on medication and vaccination to be used and planned.
