Mijikenda Cultural Tour In Kenya

Trip Orientation:
The Mijikenda community is composed of 9 different tribes who live along the coast of Kenya. They are closely related but distinct people—the Kauma, Chonyi, Jibana, Giriama, Kamabe, Ribe, Rabai, Duruma and Digo. They share a common linguistic and cultural heritage. Traditionally, each group lives in its own hilltop village (kaya) on the ridge along the Kenya coast, between the towns of Kilili and Vanga.
During this 10 day trip, you will experience their diverse Traditional cultures and enjoy the area attractions

Day 1: “Karibu (Welcome) Kenya"

Day 2 : Tsavo National Park
Trip Orientation, drive from Nairobi to Tsavo East National park: view large herds of elephants, lions and many other wildlife, plus visit Lugards Falls, Yatta plateau, Aruba Dam - outstanding nature experience with beautiful sceneries
Night in 4*** star lodge

Day 3: Digo sub-tribe
Drive to the Mombasa South Coast for Beach relaxation. Visit Digo community origins of the Mijikenda: campfire with the kaya elders, Traditional dances with women, Traditional food mostly made of coconut milk

Day 4: Duruma sub-tribe
Duruma Community (self-sufficient farming group so abit of tradition farming, Lunch with story of the Clan determination, different home visit, daily life of the duruma peopla)

Day 5: Kaya forest & Giriamas Comunity :
Tour the Kaya Forest, a protected area by UN which is used by community to call for rain during dry season, make judgements & decisions making. Visit a Giriama Community in Kwale Districts: learn how to build Makuti thatched houses, work in perennials farming of coconuts and cashewnuts
Night in 3*** star hotel .

Day 6: Mombasa Old Town
Visit Mombasa Old town, with Historical buildings dating from the 14th century, beautifully carved doors. Also visit Fort Jesus, built and used by the Portuguese as a fortress in 1593.

Day 7 and Day 8: Beach Relaxation
Just enjoy the sun, beach & good food

Day 9: Carnivore Restaurant
