Summary:
This 12-day Tanzanian adventure will make you climb Mt Kilimanjaro - the highest mountain in Africa : you will use the Machame Route in search of a lifetime accomplishment and outstanding experience! You will then relax for 3 days in Zanzibar, where you will enjoy great beaches, snorkelling and even tortoise ride beside cultural visits. You will also spend a day sharing and playing with children in a children’s home and plant trees with them that day to give back to the environment.

Itineraries

Day 1: "Karibu" Welcome Kenya
Transfer from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the Meridien hotel for dinner and overnight. (Lunch can be provided, depending on your time of arrival)  

Day 2: Nairobi- Moshi:
Drive from Nairobi to Moshi. After lunch, you will receive information on climbing before a relaxing afternoon. Visit to a children’s home, where you will be welcomed by songs and dances. You will also be offered to join! Dinner and early goodnight.

Day 3: Start Climbing: Machame camp “9,850 feet, 6 to 7 hours walk”
Drive to Machame Gate Stand at this (5,950 ft./ 1,815 mt.). Register with the park authority; begin climbing through the lush forest. Trekkers will likely hear the many exotic birds in the canopy above, and many even see black & white Columbus monkeys and Sykes monkeys as they hike along the knotted roots and mud on the forest floor: Dinner and Overnight at Machame Camp.

Day 4:  Shira Camp: “12,600 feet, 5 to 6 hours walk”
Breakfast then continue across beautiful heath land and alpine moorland with magnificent views of Kilimanjaro Peak. There is steep track through a savannah of tall grasses, and trees of Giant Heather and Erica. Scramble around large boulders as you enter the moorland zone, marked by lobelia and senecio plants, and volcanic rocks draped with lichen beards, which protect wild alpine flowers growing at their bases: Dinner and Overnight at Shira Camp.

Day 5 : Acclimatization at Shira: Barranco Camp “12,950 feet, 5 to 6 hours walk”
From here you will be getting closer to the Lava Tower  300 foot tall volcanic plug which marks an exposed pass at 15,000 feet, this draw you nearer the Uhuru peak. Afternoon, descend the steep track into the Barranco Camp Great Barranco Valley.  The camp is set on a cool (flat area) enclosed on three sides with steep valley walls and the Kibo massif itself. Hanging glaciers glint in the sunshine above, amidst the eerie landscape of plants such as the giant groundsels (Senecio Kilimanjari), and the uniquely endemic Giant Lobelia: Dinner and Overnight at Barranco Camp.

Day 6: Karanga Valley Camp “13,900 feet, 4 to 5 hours walk”
Descent to the Gorge, before we climb its eastern wall where we will enjoy views of Kilimanjaro's ice fields, an equatorial anomaly. We will continue trekking until we reach our camp in Karanga Valley: Dinner and overnight Karanga Valley Camp

Day 7: Barafu Camp “15,200 feet, 6 to 7 hours of walk”
Continue trekking up through the Karanga Valley, the trail turns steadily uphill, following the lava ridge to the Barafu camp. The temperature will grow colder and the landscape:Dinner and Overnight, Barafu Camp.  At night before sunrise while the scree is still frozen the final ascent is made to Uhuru Peak. The temperatures range from just below freezing at midnight, to between 10 deg. F (-12 deg. C) to –10 F. (-23 deg. C) just before dawn at the summit. As dawn nears, we'll summit at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 19,340 feet. Uhuru will be the culmination of - and the reward for - 6-7 hours of strenuous hiking. Descend back to Barafu Camp, resting for a while before continuing our descent to Mweka Camp: Dinner and overnight at Mweka Camp.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
From Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, it takes about 2 - 3 hours where successful climbers would be awarded certificates of achievement. Back to your hotel for a great shower and sleep!

Day 9:  Moshi - Dar es Salaam - Zanzibar :
Drive from Moshi to Dar es Salaam, then boat to Zanzibar Island (known locally as Unguja) gets most of the headlines, but the archipelago also consists of lush Pemba to the north and numerous smaller islands and islets poised in luxuriously turquoise seas. There are countless unexplored pockets and loads of opportunities for flat-out hedonism. Dinner and overnight in hotel

Day 10: Stone town tour and beach relaxation
Have a relaxing time on the beach. Then have an afternoon stone town tour before seafood dinner by the sea and overnight at your hotel.

Day 11: Prison Island & snorkelling:
Take a boat to prison island for snorkelling, relaxation, picnic lunch and an amazing Tortoise Ride. This historical Island was formerly owned by an Arab and used for the confinement of refractory slaves. The beautiful beach is an ideal spot for sunbathing and the clear waters lend to excellent snorkelling. Back to the hotel before night beach party

Day 12: Zanzibar- Nairobi Bye bye (Kwaheri)
Half-day beach relaxation before taking your flight back to Nairobi airport. In Nairobi, you can do another safari to feel more Africa or take your flight back home.
